ACRYLIC PAINTING - Deb Martin
Acrylic paint (tubes) – primaries, tints & shades: (Yellow, Red, Blue, Black, White); acrylic brushes (sizes – flat 4, round 2, filbert 4, bright 6); 9x12 canvas board (first class) & stretched canvas (any from 11x14 – 18x24 okay); water jar; palette – white (Styrofoam disposable plates work well); cloth rag to wipe paint *Dress appropriately to paint – materials can be messy*
ADVENTURES IN WATERCOLOR – Marj Hier
The instructor suggests the following materials, but urges you to bring what you have.
Brushes: sizes - #3 or #4 liner (sable), #12 or #14 round (synthetic), 1 or 1 ½” flat (synthetic); Paints: (tubes) Cerulean Blue, Ultramarine Blue, Cadmium Red, Cadmium Yellow Light, Yellow Ochre, Burnt Sienna, Paynes Gray; Paper: watercolor pad, at least 12 x 18; 140 lb paper furnished by instructor for sale to students.
CALLIGRAPHY – Shelly Voss (revised 8/27/04)
Speedball Calligraphy Kit; Design brand HB pencil; kneaded eraser; theme book, regular lined (not college ruled); scratch paper; pencil sharpener; 12 inch ruler; Ultrafine black Sharpie marker; water cup; paper towels (just bring a few torn off a roll)
DRAWING I: THE BASICS – Gloria Burlingame
2 erasers – 1 ‘kneaded’, 1 white or pink; 1 Ebony pencil (or 6B pencil); 1 “sketch & wash” pencil; 3 charcoal pencils – 1 soft, 1 medium, 1 hard; 2 Sharpie black felt-tip pens – 1 fine, 1 ultra-fine; 1 Strathmore 300 Series drawing tablet, 50 sheets, 14 x 17; straight edge or ruler
DRAWING II: IN COLOR – Gloria Burlingame
Colored pencils – choose from these brands only: Portfolio series (student grade) – 12 ct. or: Prismacolor (professional grade, more expensive) – 12 ct.; 1 Prismacolor “Blender” pencil; 1 Sakura “Expressionist” set – 12 or 16 ct.; 1 Sakura “Expressionist” extender stick; Options for paper – Pacon Colorburst heavyweight construction paper (tan, 12 x 18”, 50 sheets), Artpaper – variety of tones
DRAWING WITH CHARCOAL AND PASTEL – Marj Hier
First night: Pencils 2B, 4B, or equivalent; Conte crayon – 1 stick ea. of terra cotta, white; vine charcoal -- medium and soft; kneaded eraser; charcoal paper (white) -- 18 x 24 -- can be purchased in sheets (get 3 to start) or pads; 18 x 24 newsprint pad -- 50 sheets medium size sketch pad -- OK to bring what you already have *Instructor will inform class on what pastels are needed for future classes*
FIGURE DRAWING: OPEN STUDIO – Peter Xiao or Gary Burlingame
(Participants can use a variety of drawing media – however, the use of aerosol spray fixatives in the studio is prohibited)
